Anthropic Launches Personal Finance Tool for Claude to Track Account Spending
· Technology · TechCrunch, Engadget, Android Authority
Anthropic has launched a new Personal Finance tool for its AI chatbot Claude, allowing users to connect their bank and credit card accounts to track spending. Account connections are handled through financial platform Plaid, giving Claude read-only access to balances, credit limits, and up to two years of transaction history without the ability to move or invest money. The feature analyzes connected accounts to categorize monthly expenses, calculate interest payments, and flag potential issues such as duplicate charges or rising bills. Anthropic stated that conversations within the Personal Finance hub will not be used to train its AI models, and the interface will remain free of advertisements or financial product recommendations. The release positions Claude in direct competition with OpenAI's ChatGPT, which introduced similar financial account integrations in May.
Why it matters
The launch turns AI chatbots into personal money management tools while setting a strict privacy precedent by keeping financial transaction data out of model training datasets.
