· Sports · Sportstar, Indian Express, Times of India

International Master Anuj Shrivatri became India’s 100th Grandmaster on Sunday after winning the 7th ASEAN Plus Individual Open Chess Championship in the Philippines. The 22-year-old is the first chess player from Madhya Pradesh to achieve the required Grand Master norms. V.S. Rathnavel was confirmed as India’s 99th Grandmaster earlier in the month after reaching the 2500 Elo rating mark at the Guwahati Smart City International Open 2026. Rathnavel had completed his three norms in 2022 but waited four years for FIDE confirmation of his Elo rating. Shrivatri's victory marks a milestone for Indian chess as the country reaches a century of Grandmasters.
