Apple Hit With $5.7 Billion Patent Verdict Over Haptics Tech

A federal jury in San Diego ordered Apple to pay Taction Technology more than $5.7 billion after finding that the tech giant infringed two haptics patents. Taction originally sued Apple in 2021 in the US District Court for the Southern District of California, alleging that the Taptic Engine used in iPhones and Apple Watches incorporated its vibration technology without authorization. Apple vowed to appeal the verdict in a statement to Bloomberg Law, maintaining that it does not use Taction's technology. The seven jurors deliberated for two days following a trial that began on September 14, 2026.
