Apple Introduces Subscription Retention Tools for Developers
· Technology · MacRumors, Gadgets360
Apple has launched a new subscription retention feature that allows app developers to display targeted messages when a subscriber attempts to cancel a service. The tool, rolled out on November 4, 2026, enables developers to present text, images, or special promotional offers directly within the App Store cancellation flow. Developers can configure these retention messages through App Store Connect for auto-renewable subscriptions, setting subscriber eligibility and managing wait times between prompts. Additionally, a separate Retention Messaging API available by request lets developers customise which offers appear based on individual subscription details. App Store users may now encounter discount offers or prompts explaining the value of a subscription before finalising a cancellation.
Why it matters
App developers gain direct tools to reduce churn, while consumers face additional friction and targeted promotional offers when managing recurring digital subscriptions.
