Apple Keeps iCloud+ Hide My Email Domain After User Backlash

· Technology · MacRumors, TechCrunch, Engadget

Apple has reversed its previous decision to change the email domain used for the iCloud+ Hide My Email feature. Emails sent through Hide My Email will continue using the standard icloud.com domain instead of transitioning to private.icloud.com. The company initially announced plans in June to unify Sign in and Hide My Email under private.icloud.com, triggering user concerns that platforms would easily block disposable aliases. Following community feedback, Apple decided to maintain the icloud.com domain for Hide My Email to prevent legitimate user addresses from being blocked. Meanwhile, Sign in with Apple addresses will still transition to private.icloud.com later this year, replacing privaterelay.appleid.com.

Why it matters

iCloud+ subscribers retain uninterrupted privacy protection without the risk of websites and online services blocking their custom email aliases.
