Apple Music Web Easter Egg Reveals Playable First-Generation iPod
· Technology · MacRumors, Engadget
Apple Music's web player contains a hidden, fully functional first-generation iPod that appears when a user visits a non-existent page such as music.apple.com/macrumors. The virtual iPod lets visitors navigate with a click wheel and stream 90-second previews from artists including Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Coldplay, Drake, Eminem and U2. An additional Easter egg inside the Settings → About screen unlocks the classic Atari game Breakout when the centre button is held. The feature was discovered on the 25th anniversary of Apple's original iPod announcement and works only in a browser, not the native app.
Why it matters
The Easter egg offers a nostalgic, interactive tribute to the device that transformed Apple's fortunes and lets users sample music directly in the browser without opening the app.
