Apple's Foldable iPhone Ultra to Support MagSafe Charging, Gurman Says
· Technology · MacRumors, Yahoo Finance
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone Ultra will likely support MagSafe charging, addressing earlier doubts after April dummy models lacked a visible MagSafe ring. The device is rumoured to measure just 4.5mm when open, omit Face ID hardware in favour of Touch ID, and feature a 5.5-inch outer display and 7.8-inch inner display in a passport-style form factor. Other reported specs include wide and ultra-wide rear cameras, a durable hinge with a minimal crease, and dynamic app resizing between displays. Gurman expects Apple to unveil the foldable alongside the iPhone 18 Pro at a September 9, 2026 event called 'Surprise and Shine', with both devices launching around the same time.
Why it matters
MagSafe support removes a major practical worry for buyers expecting their existing chargers and accessories to work with Apple's first foldable. The September 9 unveiling will set the price and positioning of the device in markets like India, where Apple sells its premium iPhones at scale.
