The Argentine government has announced it will file criminal charges against Navitas Petroleum and its executives for offshore oil activities near the Falkland Islands. This follows a speech by President Javier Milei, who declared the islands, known as Malvinas, historically and legally Argentine. Navitas, a Tel Aviv-listed company, holds a 65% stake in the Sea Lion oil project, which is estimated to contain 1.7 billion barrels of oil and is slated for production in 2028. Argentina claims that drilling in the area violates national laws prohibiting resource exploitation without its explicit approval. The British government has dismissed Milei's claims, maintaining an way stance on the territory.
