Arm Holdings Chief Rene Haas Predicts AI Will Cure Cancer

Artificial intelligence will find a cure for cancer that humans cannot within our lifetimes, according to Rene Haas, chief executive of Cambridge-based chip designer Arm Holdings. Haas stated that while modelling how a DNA marker is impacted by cancer is currently too complex for humans and computers, future AI systems will solve the problem as models scale. He also noted that AI will lead to widespread humanoid robots in manufacturing, cleaning, security, and repairs within the next decade. However, he warned that the current rapid growth of AI is being held up by a shortage of chips needed to build data centres, and expressed scepticism about future microchip manufacturing in the UK. Arm designs the central processing units used in hundreds of billions of phones, cars, smartwatches, and gadgets globally.
