Arrested Assam Civil Servant Used Mimic For Criminal Misconduct

The Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell arrested Dhemaji District Development Commissioner Debeswar Bora in Guwahati and Dhemaji for criminal misconduct and misusing his official position. Investigators state that the 1999-batch Assam Civil Service officer used a middleman adept at mimicking voices to impersonate Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, and other senior bureaucrats during phone calls. The accused allegedly collected money by promising government jobs and contracts to various individuals before the scheme backfired when dealing with a local politician-businessman. The vigilance cell conducted operations at multiple locations and interrogated the officer following a formal complaint.
