Arunachal Minister Flags Dhurandhar Border Row With China
· India · Telegraph India, Times of India
Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Mama Natung on Friday revived the long-standing Dhurandhar boundary dispute during a legislative discussion, urging the Centre to press Beijing for a resolution. The Dhurandhar area in Upper Siang district has seen repeated Chinese incursions and infrastructure construction since the 1980s, and Natung said local residents continue to lose access to traditional grazing and hunting grounds. The minister presented satellite imagery and ground reports to the Assembly showing fresh Chinese road building within 5 kilometres of the Line of Actual Control. Chief Minister Pema Khandu backed the demand and said the state government would submit a detailed dossier to the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs. New Delhi has not publicly responded to the latest appeal. The Arunachal government first raised Dhurandhar in 2016, but the issue stalled after diplomatic talks yielded no breakthrough.
Why it matters
The push reopens a sensitive Himalayan flashpoint where Indian civilians have lost land access, testing New Delhi's willingness to confront Beijing on lesser-known sectors beyond Tawang and Ladakh.
