Asian Games Hosts Tell Late Athletes To Find Their Own Rooms

Organisers of the Asian Games in Nagoya and Aichi, Japan, have told athletes arriving beyond the original 15,000-person quota to make their own accommodation arrangements. The Olympic Council of Asia confirmed last week that 17,000 athletes and officials will now attend after teqball and padel were added to the programme, but the host city's agreement only budgets for 15,000. Aichi Governor Hideaki Omura said there is "neither the manpower nor the budget" for the extra 2,000. Between 4,000 and 5,000 athletes will stay on the cruise ship Costa Serena docked in the area, 2,000 in container-style huts, and the rest in Tokyo hotels for swimming, diving, and equestrian events. The Games run from 19 September to 4 October.

Athletes and national federations from across Asia — including India — now face added logistics and cost burdens to secure rooms, with potential last-minute dropouts if delegations cannot self-arrange.
