Assam Floods: Over 26,000 Houses Damaged, Second Phase of Relief Begins

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that 26,681 houses were damaged during the floods that hit the state in July. The government has initiated the second phase of interim monetary relief, distributing ₹15,000 each to affected families in the Sibsagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat districts. Officials are currently conducting a survey to assess total losses, which is expected to conclude by mid-September. The state has identified significant damage to cattle sheds, handloom materials, and livestock, alongside 93,256 affected farmers. Once the survey process is finalized, the government plans to process payments via direct benefit transfer and seek federal support under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for reconstruction.
