Assam Lays Foundation for Northeast's Largest Power Project in Dhubri

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for Adani Power Limited's 3,200 megawatt Ultra-Supercritical Thermal Power Plant at Chapar in Dhubri district. The ₹48,000-crore project will be the largest power installation in the northeast region and resulted from evictions after the former Bodoland Territorial Council could not provide land in Kokrajhar. Adani Group director Jeet Adani stated that the thermal plant is part of a ₹63,000-crore investment package in Assam that includes two pumped storage plants with a combined capacity of 2,700 MW. The thermal facility will feature four 800 MW units utilising ultra-supercritical technology, with phased commissioning slated to begin in December 2030. The project is expected to generate state SGST revenues, boost local industrial participation, and provide employment opportunities.
