Assam Man Arrested for Murdering Partner in Bengaluru After Alleged Smothering

· India · The Hindu, Indian Express

A 21-year-old woman from Assam was found dead in Bengaluru on August 30 after a fight with her partner, Munnadas, a resident of Lakhipur, Assam. Police initially registered an unnatural death report but later converted it into a murder case after the post-mortem report on September 15 indicated asphyxia, with violent smothering not ruled out. Munnadas, who had brought the woman to Bengaluru and was living with her as tenants, was arrested on September 16 near Rayasandra and remanded in judicial custody. The house owner had raised suspicion about the man’s involvement after discovering the woman’s body. The case is now under investigation by the Parappana Agrahara police.

Why it matters

The arrest highlights the risks of domestic violence and the importance of timely police intervention in cases where suspicious deaths occur. Families and survivors of domestic abuse in Bengaluru and across India may feel more vulnerable, while the legal process will determine accountability for the accused.
