Assam Police Apprehend 12 Bangladeshi Infiltrators in Goalpara

· India · Hindustan Times, NDTV

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that 12 Bangladeshi nationals, including three children, were apprehended in Assam's Goalpara district for illegally entering India. A local resident spotted the group wandering and crying in panic on Friday night after they reached Goalpara by bus. Members of the group stated they crossed the border via Jaflong in Meghalaya on October 5 under the direction of a broker named Sabor, who later fled near Guwahati railway station. Authorities suspect a human trafficking and illegal migration network is involved in the operation. Chief Minister Sarma stated that law enforcement will take strict action against the infiltrators and hunt down their local hosts.
