Hrishita Lahon, a 22-year-old English literature graduate from Assam, died after the Uber bike taxi she was riding was allegedly hit by a DTC bus near Delhi’s Ashram flyover on Monday at 9.40 am. The bike taxi rider, Darab Singh (33) of Faridabad, suffered injuries and is now bedridden again after returning to work in January following a three-year illness. Hrishita was taken to Jeewan Hospital and later shifted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Sarita Vihar, where she died around 2 pm during treatment. Police said there were no CCTV cameras at the Ashram flyover and no eyewitnesses could be traced at the hospital. Darab’s medico-legal case recorded injuries from the accident, and he is currently unable to work or walk. The incident occurred as the Uber bike taxi was travelling from Sheikh Sarai to Noida via the concrete approach to the DND Flyway.
Why it matters
Hrishita Lahon’s death highlights road safety risks for app-based two-wheeler riders in Delhi, particularly at flyovers lacking surveillance. Darab Singh’s relapse into long-term disability underscores the vulnerability of gig workers returning after health setbacks.
