Assam Woman’s Severed Head Found in Fridge After Husband Surrenders

Assam police recovered the partially decomposed and headless body of a 25-year-old boutique worker named Riya Talukdar from an apartment in Guwahati’s Beltola area on September 6, 2026. Her severed head, wrapped in a polythene bag, and fingers were found inside the refrigerator of the flat where she lived since her marriage in September 2025. Her cab driver husband, Ramanujan Goswami, surrendered to the police and was arrested following the discovery. Neighbours had alerted the authorities after noticing a foul smell emanating from the residence, prompting police to break the lock and recover the body from the floor. According to police, the husband confessed that he killed his wife with a machete on September 3 following frequent fights over an alleged extramarital relationship. The body was sent to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.
