Astronomers Discover Potential Black Hole Star Using James Webb Space Telescope

Astronomers analyzing data from the James Webb Space Telescope have identified a hypothetical object in the early universe dubbed a black hole star. Located in an era when the universe was just 660 million years old, the object—designated MoM-BH*-1—glows bright red and is approximately the size of the solar system. Researchers found that it emits about 100 billion times more energy than standard nuclear fusion can produce, with part of its light abruptly absorbed by an extremely dense gas envelope. Scientists suspect the phenomenon consists of a central black hole devouring matter while surrounded by a massive gas cloud that mimics starlight. This discovery could explain the frequent appearance of mysterious small red spots in early universe observations that do not fit standard galactic categories.
