Ather Energy posts first quarterly profit as revenue jumps 63%
· Automobile · LiveMint, Nikkei Asia
Ather Energy Ltd reported its first-ever quarterly net profit of ₹1.26 crore for the September quarter (Q2FY27), driven by operating leverage despite supply constraints. Operating revenue surged 63% year-on-year to ₹1,464 crore, while EBITDA profitability improved to 0.8% from a negative 2.7% in Q1. Against 108% year-on-year demand growth measured by pre-orders, registrations rose only 60% to 92,600 units and production grew 45% to 98,400 units. The management acknowledged 18,000-20,000 units of monthly retail demand remain unrealized as capacity expansion accelerates. The Hosur facility enhancement and AURIC plant Phase 1 are slated for Q3 and Q4 respectively, targeting capacity more than doubling to 920,000 units by FY27-end.
Why it matters
The profit milestone signals a turning point for India's electric two-wheeler sector, directly affecting investors, dealers, and the growing base of EV customers awaiting delivery. Improved margins and expanding capacity could accelerate adoption, while the unresolved demand backlog highlights execution challenges in meeting market appetite.
