Australian Private Credit Firms Impose Redemption Limits
· Business · LiveMint, Bloomberg
Metrics Credit Partners, one of Australia's largest private credit firms, has temporarily suspended investor redemptions, contributing to global concerns regarding 'gating' in the private credit sector. This move follows similar restrictions imposed by major global asset managers including Blackstone, Apollo, KKR, BlackRock, and Blue Owl. These firms are capping withdrawals to protect liquidity as investor demand to exit funds increases. The sector is also facing pressure from the recent administration of Sydney-based developer Bathla Group, which owed approximately A$3.4 billion to private lenders.
Why it matters
Widespread redemption freezes in the $1.8 trillion private credit industry create a negative feedback loop that could destabilize broader financial markets and impact investor liquidity.
