· India · Hindustan Times, The Hindu

A 35-year-old autorickshaw driver named Shoukat died by suicide in Malappuram after posting on Facebook that the Motor Vehicles Department denied a fitness certificate for his vehicle. Police stated that Shoukat alleged the MVD destroyed his livelihood by withholding the document because he approached authorities directly without using agents. In his social media post, he claimed that visiting MVD offices over 10 months caused severe financial distress, pushed his EMIs into arrears, and dropped his credit score from 820 to 600. Police registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an investigation into the Kondotty Sub Regional Transport Office. Transport Minister C P John sought an inquiry report from the Malappuram District RTO regarding the allegations.
