Avoid Anti-National Content: MIB Warns TV Channels Against Inflammatory Debates

· India · Times of India, The Hindu

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued an advisory on Wednesday instructing private satellite television channels to avoid live coverage of anti-terror operations and refrain from airing anti-national content. The ministry directed broadcasters to strictly follow the Programme Code under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, and the associated rules. Broadcasters were specifically cautioned against broadcasting violent visuals, inciting communal disharmony, and compromising the identities of sexual assault victims. The guidelines also restrict artificial intelligence tools to assistive capacities to prevent any compromise on news accuracy and authenticity. The ministry warned that violations of these statutory provisions may invite legal action.

Why it matters

The advisory directly impacts television news broadcasters, editors, and media networks across India by tightening regulatory compliance standards for live coverage, debates, and the use of artificial intelligence.
