· Entertainment · Times of India, Indian Express
Emraan Hashmi’s sequel "Awarapan 2" finished its first week with a cumulative collection of Rs 113.5 crore, earning a return on investment of 151%. The film opened on 14 August, gaining Rs 22 crore on Friday, jumping to Rs 33.75 crore on Saturday and Rs 26 crore on Sunday, aided by the Independence Day holiday and an increase from 9,033 to 10,496 shows. Collections dipped to Rs 9.25 crore on Monday and steadied at Rs 9.75 crore Tuesday, then fell to Rs 6.75 crore on Wednesday and Rs 6 crore on Thursday, hitting 10,832 screens. The run positioned the film ahead of "OMG 2", pushing the latter out of the top three Independence Day releases and marking a strong post‑COVID commercial comeback for Hashmi.
Why it matters
The outcome restores Emraan Hashmi’s standing as a bankable star and demonstrates the financial viability of holiday‑timed releases for Bollywood producers.
