Bachao...: Delhi Woman's Cry For Help As Students Get Trapped Under Rubble

· India · NDTV

Seven people have died and several others sustained injuries after a multi-storey building collapsed in Delhi's Satya Niketan area on Sunday afternoon. A rescue operation involving 12 survivors pulled from the debris has been underway for over 24 hours. The Delhi civic body suspended five officials, including Deputy Commissioner (South Zone) Rakesh Kumar, following the tragedy. Preliminary investigations indicate that the 1970-built structure had been vacant for nearly a year before renovation work began for a men's paying guest accommodation named Hostel Daze. Officials report that a pillar became unstable during the ongoing repairs, weakening the structure and causing the collapse.

Why it matters

The tragedy exposes severe regulatory lapses in urban safety and municipal enforcement, directly threatening residents and tenants living in vulnerable buildings across Delhi.
