Bandra's Neville D'Souza Ground Cleared for Convention Centre

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's general body cleared a proposal to change the land reservation of the Neville D'Souza football ground in Bandra to a convention and exhibition centre. Inaugurated in 2018, the 8,000-square-metre plot served as one of Mumbai's few dedicated football venues and is associated with over 200 football clubs. Opposition parties and local corporators strongly objected to the move, citing the city's fast-depleting open spaces. Mayor Ritu Tawde and the ruling Mahayuti alliance defended the decision, stating the land was originally reserved as a convention centre by MHADA. Meanwhile, the Mumbai District Football Association has challenged the administrative move in the Bombay HC.
