Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman declined to comment on whether Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi this week. India invited the Prime Minister to join an outreach session in his role as the current chair of BIMSTEC. Rahman, who recently assumed the role of President of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, stated he could not address bilateral issues in his current capacity. The uncertainty occurs amid strained relations after New Delhi provided political asylum to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed there is currently no update from Dhaka regarding the PM's participation.
