Indian pole vaulter Baranica Elangovan cleared 4.15 metres to win a bronze medal at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, becoming the first Indian to podium in the event. Getting her equipment to the venue required negotiating with more than six airlines whose regulations restricted equipment length to 3.40 metres. The Athletics Federation of India intervened to secure clearance from Japan Airlines for her 4.30m pole. In the final, the 29-year-old shared the bronze with Kazakhstan's Polina Ivanova after overcoming an ACL tear in her take-off leg in 2020. Japan's Misaki Morota won gold with 4.55 metres, while China's Niu Chunge took silver.
