Barapullah Phase III Flyover Causes Major Traffic Jam After Opening
· India · The Hindu, Indian Express, Hindustan Times
The newly inaugurated Barapullah Phase III elevated corridor in New Delhi caused heavy traffic congestion on Wednesday morning, just a day after opening. Commuters reported vehicle queues stretching up to 3.5 kilometres and delays of 40 to 60 minutes. Delhi traffic police estimated that 5 to 6 lakh vehicles converged on the new corridor, overwhelming the road network at exit points. While the corridor aims to cut travel time between Mayur Vihar and south Delhi to 15 minutes, the morning peak gridlock extended well into the afternoon.
Why it matters
Daily commuters traveling between east and south Delhi face severe congestion and extended travel times despite the inauguration of the new infrastructure corridor.
