Barron Trump Withdraws From Public Life After Iranian State TV Threat
· World · Indian Express, Hindustan Times
Barron Trump, the 20-year-old son of US President Donald Trump, has largely withdrawn from public view following an Iranian state television broadcast that appeared to threaten his life. The roughly three-minute video aired on Channel 3 of Iranian state TV claimed a $10m bounty had been offered for his killing and purported to show details of his university, escort vehicles and Secret Service protection. The US Secret Service confirmed it was aware of the broadcast and said it investigates anything perceived as a threat toward its protectees. Sources familiar with the family told The New York Post that Barron "doesn't go out" and is "pretty reclusive", spending much of the summer with his mother Melania at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey. The threat comes amid a wider climate of political violence in the US, including prior assassination attempts and alleged plots targeting President Trump.
Why it matters
The Iranian state broadcast escalates tensions between Washington and Tehran by directly targeting a member of the president's family, and the Secret Service's public acknowledgement signals heightened US security posture around Trump family members.
