BCCI Appoints Parvinder Awana As Junior Selectors' Chairman
· Sports · NDTV Sports, Indian Express
Former India pacer Parvinder Awana was appointed chairman of the Indian men's junior cricket team selection committee on Friday, overriding recent media reports. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the appointment, confirming Awana's role despite earlier speculation. His prior playing experience, limited to just two T20 Internationals, contrasts with the new leadership position. The selection committee overseage India's age-group cricket setup ahead of upcoming junior tournaments.
Why it matters
The appointment signals the BCCI's trust in Awana's cricketing insights despite his brief international playing career, potentially shaping the future of India's age-group talent pipeline. It also resolves the uncertainty surrounding the selection panel's leadership ahead of the junior team's competitive season.
