BCCI Plans FTP Overhaul to Tackle Player Injuries and Overseas Form
· Sports · Times of India, ESPNCricinfo
The BCCI is planning to restructure the Future Tours Programme to address recurring player injuries and improve performance in SENA countries. Secretary Devajit Saikia announced the roadmap following a high-level review meeting in Mumbai attended by head coach Gautam Gambhir and captains Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. The board intends to schedule future tours with more rest periods and acclimatisation matches to better prepare the team for challenging conditions in South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia. Saikia dismissed reports of a communication gap between team management and the Centre of Excellence, stating that all wings of the board are working in coordination.
Why it matters
The proposed changes to the international calendar aim to reduce player burnout and improve India's competitive record in overseas conditions ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.
