BCCI Sends Operations Team to Dubai Workshop to Space Out India Matches Amid Player Injuries
· Sports · NDTV Sports, News18
The BCCI has instructed its Future Tours Programme (FTP) team to attend a workshop in Dubai on September 22–23 to restructure international match schedules, ensuring wider gaps between games to prevent further player injuries. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the decision after a meeting with team management, citing repeated injuries to stars like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, and B. Sai Sudharsan. The workshop will include representatives from all major cricket boards and top eight associate members to discuss the FTP for 2027–31, with a focus on rest and acclimatisation before major series in SENA countries. The BCCI has already named a full-strength squad for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan, but the participation of injured players remains 'subject to fitness.' The move follows concerns over gruelling schedules contributing to player fatigue and injuries.
Why it matters
Indian cricketers and fans directly benefit from this restructuring, as it aims to reduce the physical toll of back-to-back tours and minimise disruptions to key players. The BCCI’s proactive approach could also influence how other boards manage player workloads globally, setting a precedent for injury prevention in international cricket.
