BCCI Shifts Duleep Trophy Final to Chepauk Stadium for Crowds
· Sports · Indian Express, NDTV Sports, Cricbuzz
The BCCI has relocated the 2026-27 Duleep Trophy final from Bengaluru to the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai to allow spectators to attend. The summit clash will take place from September 6-10. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated that the move was necessary due to government land-adoption restrictions at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru that prohibit crowd gatherings. The remainder of the tournament, including quarter-finals and semi-finals beginning August 23 and August 30 respectively, will proceed at the Bengaluru facility. The BCCI has also expanded broadcast coverage to stream all matches live alongside televised coverage for select knockout fixtures.
Why it matters
Domestic cricket fans gain live stadium access for a premier domestic red-ball tournament final that would have otherwise been played behind closed doors.
