BDA to Start Ballari Road Elevated Corridor on November 6; KIA Traffic Disrupted

· India · The Hindu, The New Indian Express

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) will commence work on a ₹2,215 crore four-lane elevated corridor between UAS Staff Quarters and Mehkri Circle on Ballari Road starting November 6. This 18-month construction project will significantly disrupt traffic to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) and increase travel times for passengers. The project includes a cut-and-cover six-lane short tunnel between Hebbal junction and Veterinary College, and an elevated corridor to Mehkri Circle with a rotary flyover. Traffic police have prohibited all goods vehicles, KSRTC, and private buses on Ballari Road, advising commuters to use alternative routes.

Why it matters

This major infrastructure project aims to decongest Hebbal junction, a notorious traffic bottleneck in Bengaluru, but will cause significant travel disruptions for commuters, especially those heading to KIA, for the next 18 months. The project has also faced criticism and a stay on tree-felling from the National Green Tribunal.
