BEML Secures ₹5,400 Crore Bullet Train Order for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Project

BEML Ltd has secured its largest-ever single order worth ₹5,400 crore to supply and maintain B28 high-speed trainsets for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project. The contract pushes the company's total order book to ₹22,000 crore, which is about five times its trailing twelve-month revenue. To handle the execution pace, BEML commissioned its Bengaluru high-speed rail complex in April and plans to open another coach manufacturing facility in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, by mid-2027. The company also increased its R&D spending by 150% year-on-year to ₹251 crore in FY26 to reduce its reliance on imported systems. BEML reported a Q1FY27 revenue of ₹820 crore and posted its first positive Q1 EBITDA in 15 years at ₹2.1 crore, rebounding from a ₹48 crore loss in the same period last year.

The mega order marks BEML's entry into high-speed rail manufacturing beyond conventional coaches, directly testing its capacity expansion and execution capabilities as its shares trade at 42 times FY27 earnings.
