Bhuvneshwar Kumar Reveals Why His India Comeback Hopes Faded

· Sports · Times of India, Pragativadi

Veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has revealed that he no longer waits for an India recall after last playing for the national team in November 2022. Speaking on YouTube, the 36-year-old admitted he felt he deserved another opportunity following strong IPL campaigns with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he took 17 wickets in 2025 and 28 wickets in 2026. Bhuvneshwar stated that expectations of a return faded after a call from the team management following a New Zealand tour did not materialise into selection. He added that he made peace with his omission with the support of his family and is no longer playing to prove anything. The bowler also recalled sensing that the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal defeat to England in Adelaide would be his final World Cup for India.

Why it matters

The revelation provides closure on the international career of one of India's most effective swing bowlers of the past decade, despite his continued success in domestic Twenty20 leagues.
