Bihar Congress Rebels Plan Delhi Protest Over Leadership
· India · Indian Express, The Hindu
Disgruntled Bihar Congress leaders plan to hold a protest outside the AICC office in New Delhi on September 8 to demand the removal of state Congress president Rajesh Ram and AICC state in-charge Krishna Allavaru. The leaders allege corruption within the party organisation and the sale of organisational posts. Among the organisers are nine leaders, including party spokesperson Anand Madhav, former MLA Chhatrapati Yadav, and former Bihar Youth Congress chief Rajkumar Rajan, who were expelled from the party for six years on February 18. The expelled leaders argue that their expulsion is invalid because it lacked due approval from the AICC disciplinary committee. They also state that denial of tickets for the Assembly polls fueled their grievances after repeated attempts to meet Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi failed.
Why it matters
The deepening rift threatens to further weaken the Congress party organisation in Bihar following its defeat in the Assembly elections.
