Bihar Government Opens 211 New Degree Colleges and Plans Oxford Training for Professors

The Bihar government has opened 211 new degree colleges in a single day, raising the state's total tally of state-recognised degree colleges to over 1,000. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced that the higher education department will select 100 professors for orientation training and research collaboration at Oxford and other premier international institutions. The new colleges are all set up in block towns that previously lacked degree colleges, aiming to reduce travel distances for rural students, particularly young women. Bihar higher education minister Sanjay Singh Tiger stated that the government is developing a detailed selection process for the international exposure plan. This initiative is part of broader state reforms, supported by an education budget allocation of Rs 68,216 crore, which also introduces biometric tracking, smart classes, and artificial intelligence into the state's higher education system.
