Bihar Police Tell Supreme Court Constable Fired AK-47 After Getting Trapped in Crowd

The Bihar Police informed the Supreme Court that a constable stationed in the District Intelligence Unit fired four rounds from an AK-47 rifle into the air after getting trapped in a violent mob during a bandh in Siwan on July 25. In a counter affidavit filed by ADGP K Suhita Anupam, authorities stated that protests led by AISA and RYA turned violent near Gandhi Maidan and JP Chowk, resulting in stone-pelting that injured 20 police personnel including the Siwan Superintendent of Police. The police force deployed water cannons and tear gas shells, while registering six FIRs against 82 persons and arresting 17 individuals. Another assistant sub-inspector also fired two rounds from a 9mm pistol at Hathi Chowk to disperse the mob, leaving three protesters with minor firearm injuries. The affidavit was submitted to the top court on August 11.
