Bihar Teacher Recruitment Protests Turn Violent in Patna
· India · Hindustan Times, The Hindu
Student protesters in Patna clashed with police on Tuesday after breaking barricades while marching toward the residences of the governor and chief minister Samrat Choudhary. The demonstrators, belonging to leftist groups like the Students' Federation of India and Democratic Youth Federation of India, are demanding a single test for teacher recruitment instead of the Bihar Public Service Commission's move to conduct both preliminary and main exams for 33,000 posts. Police used water cannons and detained several protesters after some individuals allegedly threw stones during the scuffle. Deputy police superintendent Kamakhya Narayan Singh was among the law enforcement personnel injured in the clash near the Dak Bungalow crossing. The protest coincided with the launch of the Vidhyarthi Sahyog Shivir, a student support camp initiated by CM Choudhary to address grievances.
