President of India has appointed BJP leader Dr. Dinesh Sharma as the Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The 62-year-old politician, who previously served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, is currently a Rajya Sabha member and its vice chairperson. His appointment is effective from the date he assumes charge of the office. His tenure in the Rajya Sabha was scheduled to conclude on November 25.
