The BJP has nominated Hasirani Rath as its candidate for the upcoming Nandigram Assembly by-election scheduled for October 6, 2026. Ms. Rath is the mother of Chandranath Rath, the former personal assistant to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari who was shot dead in Madhyamgram on May 6, 2026. The CBI previously filed a chargesheet on August 7 naming 12 accused in connection with the murder.
