The Bharatiya Janata Party has organized a special celebration in New Delhi for party patriarch Lal Krishna Advani's 99th birthday on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to call on Advani, while party president Nitin Nabin will preside over a special havan ceremony at the party headquarters. Born in undivided Karachi, Advani is a recipient of the Bharat Ratna, a former deputy Prime Minister, and a founding figure who led the Ramjanmabhoomi movement. Senior leaders with long associations with the BJP stalwart will attend the event to honor his political journey starting from the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951. Advani, along with Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Murli Manohar Joshi, was elevated to the Margdarshak Mandal advisory body in 2014.
Why it matters
