BMC Demolishes Unauthorised Lobby Encroachments at Mumbai's Rustomjee Crown

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has begun demolition of illegal structures at the Rustomjee Crown residential complex in Mumbai’s Prabhadevi area. Officials targeted glass and aluminium enclosures in common lobbies that were converted into private habitable spaces, violating the building's sanctioned plans. The civic body previously issued notices to 128 flat owners following a complaint from RTI activist Santosh Daundkar. Daundkar’s complaint alleged that some owners illegally merged 450-500 square feet of common space per unit, representing an estimated unauthorised market gain of over Rs 200 crore. The demolition action, which began on Monday, is currently focused on units across two floors of one wing.
