Bombay HC Backs Pune Protesters Over MPSC Exam Lapses, Calls Them Students Not Anti-Nationals

· India · Hindustan Times, Indian Express

The Bombay High Court stated on Wednesday that job aspirants protesting against irregularities in Maharashtra Public Service Commission exams have a legitimate right to agitate. A bench comprising Chief Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Advait Sethna remarked that protesters are students rather than anti-nationals and directed the government to restore their trust. The court ordered the state to file an affidavit within three weeks providing a department- and reservation-wise break-up of nearly 70,000 vacancies. Advocate General Milind Sathe informed the court that the state has accepted one of the student demands while a representation concerning the MPSC chairman has been sent to the governor. The bench asked the agitating students in Pune to return to classes while emphasizing the necessity of fair recruitment examinations.

Why it matters

The ruling directly impacts thousands of civil services aspirants in Maharashtra demanding transparency and reform in state public service recruitment examinations.
