Bombay HC Questions Sachin Waze Over Ownership Of Luxury Cars
· India · Hindustan Times, The Hindu
The Bombay high court on Thursday questioned how former assistant police inspector Sachin Waze could afford a fleet of luxury cars while hearing the National Investigation Agency's appeal against his bail. A division bench of justices Girish Kulkarni and Dr Neela Gokhale noted that witness statements consistently mentioned Waze traveling in vehicles such as a Mercedes, BMW, and Volvo. Additional solicitor general Anil Singh, appearing for the NIA, submitted that Waze owned five high-end cars despite his salary being around ₹90,000. The court emphasized that a police officer's integrity and loyalty to the uniform must be considered, particularly when extortion charges are invoked in connection with the Antilia explosives scare. The NIA previously claimed Waze intended to create terror to extort ransom and emerge as a super cop.
Why it matters
The court's scrutiny of a police officer's asset accumulation highlights accountability within law enforcement agencies during high-profile criminal trials.
