The Bombay High Court has directed the Maharashtra government to respond to a petition filed by the Deputy Mayor of the Malegaon Municipal Corporation, Shaan e Hind Nihal Ahmed. The petition challenges police communications demanding the removal of a Tipu Sultan portrait from her office. Ms. Ahmed, a member of the Samajwadi Party, maintains that her office displays portraits of several national figures, including Shivaji Maharaj and Mahatma Gandhi. The legal challenge follows a complaint by Nilesh Kakade, a leader of the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) party, regarding the specific inclusion of Tipu Sultan. The court, led by Chief Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Advait Sethna, has adjourned the matter to allow the state to file its reply.
