Bombay High Court Asks Centre to Amend Aadhaar Act for Deporting Illegal Foreigners

The Bombay High Court has directed the Union government and the Unique Identification Authority of India to consider amending the Aadhaar Act to help identify and deport foreign nationals living illegally in India. A Division Bench of Justices Ajay Gadkari and Kamal Khata observed that foreign nationals have been using fraudulent means to obtain Aadhaar cards to conceal their identities. The court noted that probe agencies have linked these fraudulent documents to individuals involved in anti-national activities. The order followed a plea from the Mumbai Police's Crime Intelligence Unit regarding an Afghan national who allegedly obtained an Aadhaar card using falsified documents. The court stated that inter-agency coordination and document-verification procedures currently contain gaps that require urgent attention.
