Bombay High Court Fines Maharashtra FDA Rs 5 Lakh Over Unjust Sweet Shop Licence Suspension

The Bombay High Court has ordered the Maharashtra food safety body to pay Rs 5 lakh in compensation to a Pune sweets shop for suspending its licence despite a 98 percent compliance report. Gurunanak Dairy and Sweets had remained shut due to the suspension, suffering an Rs 8.74 lakh revenue loss. A bench of Acting Chief Justice Ravindra V Ghuge and Justice Gautam A Ankhad called the suspension a strange policy and perversity. The court cancelled the suspension order and permitted the petitioner to restart operations. The FDA now has 30 days to pay the compensation.
